Hypothermia (2010)

Sometimes you need some mindless horror. You need one of those classic B-Movie schlockfests that shaped generations of horror fans. Incredibly, those movies are still being made; yet, they seem to sit outside the mainstream and often go overlooked or are lambasted by the media and buried with terrible reviews. That being said, the movie I chose for viewing tonight had all those elements, 2010s creature feature Hypothermia.

Plot/ What starts as a pleasant and relaxing weekend ice fishing with his family turns into a nightmare as squabbling families are forced to set aside their differences and work together after a vicious monster awakens from the cold waters of the remote frozen lake area they are staying at.

Do you remember those classic creature features of the 1950s? If so, than you know exactly what to expect with this one. It has everything that made those movies great, except being in black and white. The story was cool and entertaining, the characters worked, the acting decent and the pacing kept it moving. It even had the shoddy rubber-clad monster suit. Honestly, if this had better make-up effects on the creature and a better endinh, it would not have fallen into the B-movie category as there was a lot to love. In the end, this definitely pays homage to those cheesy, schlock-filled gems with men running around in a rubber suits, so, if you love them as much as I do, this one is definitely for you! Check it out!
